Miyata Twelve Hundred road bike 59cm Riv champagne Mustache bar custom refurbished

A beautiful 59cm Miyata twelve hundred road bike. Long point lugs, triple butted and splined tubing, all hand brazed in the Miyata factory in the early 1980s.  

Mustache bars were a super popular thing for older bikes in the early 2000s to get a better fit and function. It’s a real useful option where drop bars just have too much drop especially for taller riders. Red cloth tape all twined up at the ends for a bit more fussiness.  

The wheelset is built around the original vintage Suntour sealed bearing hubs on Araya rims with the last of my stash of 700c x 30mm Panaracer jack brown tires. 

Vintage mix of Suntour Cyclone and Shimano Dura Ace parts too. 

Minor point: this bike got to Portland somehow, but it was birthed and built by Brands Cyclery in Wantagh, NY. This was my first real bike shop job I had, right outta high school! 

Friction shifting, original saddle, nice.
